Don't know much about how the development of J1.6 is going but if 1.5 is anything to go by, there are a few upgrading headaches in stores. With that version WordPress is becoming a great alternative to use as a <a href="http://wpsitebuilding.com" rel="nofollow"> Free CMS for Building a Website</a> as well. Still Joomla! is growing into a better all integrated system if yo look at the upcoming version 1.6 where the section part is gone and you can have deeper categorie structures. @rich: If its just a Blog you need, WordPress can’t be beaten especially from Version 2.6 and Up.

With that version WordPress is becoming a great alternative to use as a Free CMS for Building a Website as well.

Don't get me wrong, I still prefer Joomla and have got used to using it but for new users, Joomla is very difficult to get your head around and is a bit bloated for most needs (and can take a while for a site to load). If I just wanted to blog, I'd use Wordpress instead - far easier to get your head around!
